Breeders of Manchester Terriers
The Gentleman’s Terrier
This is a historic nickname referencing the breed’s popularity among Victorian gentlemen in England. It reflects the dog’s sleek, refined appearance and alert personality.
While it would be impossible to showcase all our Champions, Obedience, Agility, and fastCAT Stars – we have created a panorama of our 22 years of dedication to breeding mentally sound, physically healthy, and wonderful Manchester Terriers.
Intelligent and Alert
The Manchester Terrier is a highly intelligent breed, known for quick learning and sharp problem-solving skills. This mental agility stems from its working history as a ratter and small game hunter in 19th-century England. Their alertness makes them excellent watchdogs—they’re very aware of their surroundings and quick to bark at anything unusual. However, their intelligence also means they need mental stimulation, or they can become bored and mischievous.
Loyal and Affecionate
These dogs form strong bonds with their people and are often described as “velcro dogs,” meaning they like to stick close to their owners. They thrive on companionship and often choose a favorite person. Manchester Terriers enjoy being involved in daily life and can be very affectionate, even cuddly at home. Their loyalty means they’re typically devoted and protective, but not aggressive.
SIRES
Energetic and Athletic
Despite their sleek, compact size, Manchester Terriers are energetic dogs that need regular physical activity. They excel in agility, obedience, and even flyball. Bred to hunt and chase, they benefit from daily walks, interactive play, and off-leash running in secure areas. If not exercised enough, their energy can turn into restlessness or destructive behavior.
Independent and Trainable
Manchester Terriers have a strong independent streak, which can make them seem a bit aloof or stubborn during training. However, they respond well to positive reinforcement and clear, consistent leadership. Harsh training methods tend to backfire, so patience and encouragement are key. Their independence makes them less clingy than some companion breeds, but they still enjoy close contact with their humans.
